New York in the Winter of 2002
I did a lot of reminiscing yesterday as I went over my ever growing collection of photo albums from trips around the US and abroad. Truth be told, I must have over 50 albums by now as I continue to travel around the world in my quest to visit at least 100 countries in my lifetime. I have blogged about places Marc and I have visited in the last couple of years but none about one of America's premier cities, New York. Here, therefore, is a compilation of pictures from our trip to New York in the winter of 2002. Actually, it was a whirlwind trip as my partner, Marc, and I spent a three day weekend there at that time. I can't exactly recall the reason for the trip. If my memory serves me right, it was either because Marc had just finished a consulting trip to NYC or about to start one. Anyway, our trips to New York have usually been attached to his business trips.
New York had just gone through the sad events of the September 2001 terrorist attacks and things were not quite the same on this, our nth, visit to the Big Apple. We did go to Ground Zero, the site of the fallen Twin Towers to see what it was like.
It is not uncommon to see pictures of this statue in travel brochures and travel books about the Big Apple. Just like the Statue of Liberty, this statue of Atlas has likewise become an icon of the city.
On our last visit to New York which was just prior to Christmas, Radio City Music Hall had a plethora of Christmas shows for the family. It was so touching and fun watching families leave the shows raving about them and smiling big from ear to ear.
This church is not far from Ground Zero.
The crowds here were either going to or coming from Ground Zero, site of the fallen Twin Towers Buildings in New York's financial district
Given the recent events of September 11, many New York buildings were draped in the US flag as a sign of strength and solidarity.
It was here where the very first US President, George Washington, took his oath of office
The inscription is located at the base of the statue of George Washington in front of the Federal Hall Building.
