More of Quebec
On our third full day in Quebec, we decided to walk along the fortifications of the city. It reminded me of the walled cities of Avila and Caceres in Spain, Carcasone in France, and even Intramuros in Manila. A huge stretch of the wall was without a doubt close to the area where the government buildings of Parliament Hill. These were what we found.
The area in front of the Parliament Building was truly pretty and well manicured.
One would be hard pressed not to see the many statues of Canadian and world leaders all over Parliament Hill. They were simply everywhere. Right in front of the Saint Louis Gate alone, there were two of the most famous leaders of the western world, Winston Churchill and Franklin Delano Roosevelt or FDR.
Here's the Gate of Saint Louis, by the way. The monuments of world leaders I talked about were just of few steps in front of this Quebec landmark. In fact they are at the base of the tree on the right. Can you see them?
This is the part of the Saint Louis Gate where people can walk on to reach the Citadelle. In other words, visitors may walk on the fortified walls or walk alongside it at the street level. Marc and I did both on two different days.
These are our shadows. Marc's and mine. I was looking at the pictures we had just taken of the Saint Louis Gate as well as the busts of FDR and Winston Churchill when Marc suddenly took this picture.
From here we were off to the Citadelle. See you all later!
