Basel, Switzerland

28-Jul-2026 • Basel Switzerland

My partner and I have been home nearly three weeks and I have to say, I am just so ecstatic to have had another five wonderful weeks in Europe. What a vacation it was! We were there during the second heatwave in the continent but even then, we came home with wonderful memories to remember the rest of our lives. One of our trip's highlights was the day we spent in Basel. Finally, after so many years, we made it back to Switzerland.

One of the reasons we stayed a full week in Strasbourg was because of its proximity to the cities we planned on visiting, Basel included. We bought our tickets on the same day we traveled. We paid around 60 euros roundtrip for each of our tickets. We've always known that it is best to buy tickets for long distance travel in advance. Many even advice two weeks prior. That way, tickets could be purchased at the best price. However, what we wanted to avoid was traveling on a day it was forecasted to rain. We've always felt there was the possibility of a strong downpour any day and we didn't want to get stuck with tickets when it did. In fact, just two years before, also in the summer, it was cloudy, cold, and wet in the Netherlands during our June visit.

As soon as we arrived we grabbed some burgers from McDonalds and off sightseeing we went. We had some problems locating the center at first but a young Swiss gentleman gave us directions.

I might be wrong but Basel's attractions seemed close to each other which made sightseeing easy.

In front of Basel's Town Hall. This picture was taken the second time we passed by it. Earlier in the day, there were food stalls right on the square. It was actually hard to take a full picture of the town hall in the beginning but we lucked out everyone had left by 3 pm.

This was a coat of arms we saw right over a parking space.

There were lots of water fountains in Basel. On our way to the train station in the afternoon, a beautiful young woman stripped naked and went into one and had herself photographed by practically every one! What a free spirit!

The main train station

This was taken inside the Basel Train Station. We had initially planned on taking the train returning to Strasbourg at 6:30 pm. That was cancelled. We ended up going home at 8:30 pm.

A full view of the imposing Basel Cathedral. It was closed at the time of our visit. We didn't get to go inside. But, we were happy just the same to see it from the outside.
