Hochst, A City with a Castle and an Old Town

24-Jul-2026 • Hochst Germany

Hochst is a German city with a muslim flair. Practically all the people we saw here were immigrants. It reminded me of the US which is very diverse.

I was delighted to visit Hochst. It definitely was new for us and the city had very lovely architecture. It was for this reason we went. We wanted to see the beautiful buildings that had been there for centuries and which have survived WW2. It was the travelers comments about the old city ambiance that made us decide to come over for a day and see its attractions.

I have to confess, I didn't do much research for our stay in Frankfurt. I normally do. But, prior to our departure, I was so busy with work, I didn't do any research on new places to see and do when we arrived. It was shortly after our arrival, when I woke up early one morning due to jetlag and earlier than everyone else in Frankfurt, that I checked on the internet some possible new places to explore and Hochst came up. After reading some reviews, we decided to go. Getting there after all was easy. We simply took the S Bahn to get there and it took all of 30 minutes. That quick.

A beautiful small city square one afternoon in June. While Europe had been reported to have begun experiencing a horrible heatwave, it was sunny in Germany but it was pleasant.

This was the tourist office we spotted while wandering around. It was closed at the time of our visit.

There surely were lots of half timbered houses everywhere in the city.

The Old Hochst Castle

Take a load of this house! Nice!

Inside St. Joseph Church in downtown Hochst. We were on our way back to Frankfurt, we passed by this church and decided to go in. Afterall, Catholic churches in Europe have the reputation of being beautiful decorated and this one was no exception. The decor was not elaborate but it was beautiful just the same. The afternoon we went inside, there was a group of young immigrant women in white gowns or robes, singing. Their singing made our visit so memorable. The choir sang so melodiously.

If I am not mistaken, this was the S Bahn train station

More half timbered houses. There were plenty of homes like this in the city. They truly were beautiful.
