We still had two full days in Tokyo after our trip to Naha, Okinawa. We planned it that way since we really love being in Tokyo. We spent these two days rediscovering Ueno which we visited for the first time 20 years ago. I still don't understand why we never returned to this part of the city despite having been to Japan many times before. It's a beautiful district of Tokyo with lots of sights to see and discover. Anyway, we realized it was not so far from Nihonbashi when we boarded the the Hibiya/Ningyocho metro line. Just a few stops and we didn't have to transfer either. We loved it. We eventually visited the Tokyo National Museum late Saturday afternoon. It was our second time there. The first visit took place last December 2005. We saw one APA Hotel right beside the Ueno Station. Our interest in this Japanese chain of hotel was piqued. Anyway, while here, I shopped once again. We went to a Uniqlo, a GU, a SUIT SQUARE outlet, and a Don Quijote. My oh my, did I score!
Taken right before entering the Tokyo National Museum. It was nice to rediscover this museum. The exhibits were distributed into three buildings but I found the buildings to be sparsely exhibited. My favorite was the Asian Pavilion which showed treasures from China, Pakistan, and Cambodia.
This was the VIlla Fontaine Kayabacho which was not so far from the TCAT. I remember it being a straight walk from our hotel in Nihonbashi/Hakozaki. We might stay here next time we return to Tokyo.
Like I mentioned earlier, this was the APA Hotel we saw right next to the Ueno train station. There are direct trains from Narito to this side of Tokyo. It seemed a very convenient place to stay in. Ueno did seem like a nice place for us to stay in.
If I am not mistaken, I had my picture taken right on this same spot 21 years earlier.
This was one of the artifacts I just loved inside the museum. It was displayed in the first building we visited.
Art from the Indian subcontinent have amazed me for a long time.
Another big favorite!
