The Fukushuen Fuzhou Garden

6-Mar-2026 • Naha, Okinawa Japan

One of the must sees in Naha's city center was the Fukushuen Garden. Just a short walk from Kokusai Dori, we got to visit it mid afternoon. After a minimal admission fee, off we went to visit the site and we were very pleased. It was a beautiful Chinese garden built to commemorate Naha's close sister city relationship with the Chinese city of Fuzhou. It features stunning Chinese architecture, ponds, waterfalls, and, manicured plants. The garden is a popular and quiet spot for visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

I wonder who this guy is?

Just like any fish pond in any park, there were lots of Carp to be found in the garden.

Although the garden was right next to a busy city street, it did feel tranquil within the garden grounds. WE actually couldn't hear any of the cars and buses that passed by.

I didn't realize one wooden pavilion I entered had this stunning ceiling.

If my memory serves me right, it was this pavilion which had the intricate wood work on the ceiling.

Unlike the cool mornings, afternoons in Naha were very sunny and warm. It was a clear reminder that we were in a tropical island.

This sculpted stone wall greeted visitors to the gardens. Taken right across the admission ticket office.
