The Daruma Temple

28-Feb-2026 • Naha, Okinawa Japan

After our visit to the Shurijo Castle, we made our way to the Daruma Temple which was a short walking distance away. So close was it to the castle, many of the visitors we saw there were here too. I initially thought the temple was small. Was I wrong. Anyway, it was the reclining buddha we saw here first. We actually entered the temple from the ground up. Anyway, it was the buddha which really caught my attention. It was so beautiful!

The temple is a popular "power spot" where visitors can pray for good fortune, academic success, and health. It is known for its connection to the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma (Daruma)

Spectacular!

Right around the main temple were small altars like this one.

What else can you find in a temple named Daruma? Darumas of course!
