London Love! To be continued
I travel a lot and I love it. It is an addiction I am happy to have and I never hide it. In fact, I announce it each and every time I do it. I really have no idea when I'll stop but like I always tell myself, "Travel while you can!" After having traveled to 117 countries, territories, and dependencies, I can honestly say that London is high up in my list of favorite cities in the world.
It has been nearly a month since we returned from our latest overseas vacation. We were gone for five weeks the last of which we spent in England. I don't think I'll ever tire of London. It is a city with such beautiful architecture, culture, art scene, and people. Besides the US, I feel at home there and I dream of living in London part time when I retire from teaching.
Given that we have been to London a number of times now, we took our time going around and decided to see the sights we had either not visited yet or had visited a long time ago. Thus, it was the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum for us at the Museum mile last month. It was our first time to both places but we also went to the Victoria and Albert Museum for a second visit. It was in 1997, after all, when we first went to the V & A for the very first time.
Likewise, our most recent visit also gave me the chance to see close friends who moved to England from Spain and have called the UK home since the 1990s. Of all the sights in London, we always pass by Harrods. I don't think I have ever gone there without visiting this famous English department store. With our hotel often close by, we go there many, many times each trip. I can't help it.
I did notice one very significant change last month, there were too many tourists in London. Too much I'm afraid. I vividly remember feeling overwhelmed by the crowds along Oxford Street so much so that we left the area and went someplace else instead.
Inside St. Pancras International Station. Two years ago, we took the train that went through the English Channel and arrived here from Brussels. We arrived so tired and in a hurry that we didn't get to see what St. Pancras was like. Last month we returned since we also wanted to see the now famous St. Pancras Hotel.
