Montreal

8-Aug-2010 • Montreal Canada

On our first full day in Montreal, we visited the Saint Joseph Oratory of Mount Royal.  This place was such a revered site, people actually went there in hopes of getting cured from their ailments and illnesses.

It was here where I saw some women go up the flight of cement stairs on their knees while praying the rosary.  Just like in the churches in Manila, I thought.

These were the flights of stairs I talked about previously. I couldn't believe women actually made their way up to the church on their knees. It must have hurt.

Inside the Jardin Botanique de Montreal. This is the garden's administrative building. The building reminds me of the Japanese Diet Building in Tokyo.

The pond inside the Japanese Garden

A Japanese garden is not a Japanese garden without carp fish in its pond. The Koi pond.

From the Japanese garden, we procceeded to visit the Chinese garden.  Well, the Chinese garden inside the Jardin Botanique of Montreal was definitely huge, lavish, and beautiful.

A Vietnamese-Canadian wedding reception was being held inside this pavilion at the time of our visit. There were many guests dressed in elegant silk Vietnamese attire. There were many colorful kites inside this building too. These were some of them.

Along with the kites that hung from the ceiling, this intricately designed paper chandelier was truly impressive.

The Tower of Condensing Clouds

It was about to rain cats and dogs when we entered the tower.

We were surprised to see an exhibit about blue and white porcelain inside the pagoda. We thought the building was empty inside.

A root table on display inside the tower. This table is made out of a tree stump from the Fujian province of China. It has a tube on its side so that it could drain tea during a tea ceremony.
