At the Schönbrunn Palace

9-Sep-2012 • Vienna Austria

Besides visiting the Hofburg Palace, the Schonbrunn was the next big tourist attraction in Vienna we just had to see and not miss.  Fortunately, this summer palace of the Hapsburgs was not so far from the city center.  It was easily accessible by subway.  Just like in the Hofburg, photography was not allowed inside the palace although a few people did take pictures every time guides were not around.  I was really annoyed at some tourists for taking pictures and others even videotaping the interiors without permission.  It just made me even more upset that such a rule was not properly enforced by the palace authorities since there were very few guides to make sure everyone followed the no pictures rule.  I found it an unfair practice.   I felt that if rules were not going to be properly implemented, then everyone should have just been allowed to take pictures to their heart's content.

The palace was huge as you can see.  It took us a long time to go through all the rooms inside. It was actually on this trip that I wished we had visited during the shoulder season as the crowds inside the palace were quite thick and sometimes unbearable.  There were people everywhere and it was quite difficult to admire the interior since we had to share the space with everyone else.  There were even instances when we could smell the sweat of some travelers around us.

Just like always, taking a picture of Marc anywhere is a chore.  Despite the smile on his face, he really is reluctant to pose.  I have to reason with him and say that with all that we've spent to travel to far flung places, I just had to take his picture for posterity.

Fortunately, there are times when he does get in the mood and poses nicely.

In my case, I seem to look the same in each and every picture we've taken over the years.  Just a smile on my face and a simple pose in front of a famous attraction.

This time, despite the great number of visitors to the palace, it didn't feel as crowded unlike inside the palace since the gardens were so big and expansive.

I loved this shot of the palace with a view of the city of Vienna in the background

I loved this picture as well.  Absolutely gorgeous.
