A Day in Lake Tahoe, July 2010

10-Jul-2010 • Lake Tahoe United States

Lake Tahoe remains a wonderful place to visit. I can no longer recall how many times I have been to the place. My family and I used to come here a lot, often for the weekend for some gambling in its casinos. We have likewise come here once for a family friend's wedding.

Although the lake water is cold, Marc and I have swum in its clear blue waters a few times. The water is absolutely clear. You can go in it and see you feet underneath.

Here's a view of the small strip of hotels, restaurants, and casinos in Lake Tahoe taken from El Dorado Hotel.

The Lake Tahoe Visitor Information Center

I was pleasantly surprised to see this center right in the middle of town.  It sure was nice to find a place where we could get information about places of interest in the immediate and nearby areas.  There was a lot of new development in Lake Tahoe too.  For years, the big name hotels here were El Dorado, Harrah's, and Circus Circus.  Sadly, some casinos have closed down but upscale hotels like the Marriott have sprung.

The yellow one is made of skateboards while the red one is made out of skis. Very interesting.

Today, new and nicer hotels and inns have sprung up right on the main drag such as this Holiday Inn Express.

The Highland Inn is another new establishment in the area.

This hotel, the 968 Park Spa and Resort, is highly rated by travelers to Lake Tahoe.

This restaurant, right by the beach, looked very upscale.

There are a number of places where people can sunbathe and swim in the lake.  Some, like this place in the picture, was a paid area, meaning, you had to pay to get in while those closer to the main road was open and free to the public.

What a view!
