The Galata Tower
On our second full day in Istanbul, cultural blitzkreiging was the order of the day for us culture vultures. The Galata Tower was a short metro ride away from Taksim Square. I wasn't expecting much from this visit but I sure was floored when we got to to the top of the tower.
I initially didn't find the visit very pleasant. To begin with, the area where visitors walked around was very, very narrow. It truly was uncomfortable being there when the crowd was pretty thick. It was a good thing the people didn't linger and a few minutes later, we had the tower to ourselves.
The view of the city from up above was spectacular. Truly, honestly spectacular. Furthermore, I don't think I'll ever forget our visit since it was here where I saw a young man propose to his girlfriend. He knelt down, took a ring inside a tiny box, and offered it to his love. The girl said yes and it was quite a sight I must say. I was actually standing right next to them when it happened. I did step aside so as to give them privacy. It was so sweet. Shortly after the girl said yes, they kissed and hugged each other.
I was determined to take everything in and so I went around the tower twice taking lots of pictures of the city down below.
