The Emirate of Ajman

2-Dec-2017 • Ajman Ajman

After Sharjah, off we went to the neighboring Emirate, Ajman. It seemed to me that the farther we went away from Dubai, the less opulent the emirate was. Anyway, given the limited time we had for each emirate, each visit really entailed visiting one or two of the emirate's main sights.

What caught our attention was the roundabout which had a boat and some arches. IT did look pretty. Then right across it was the small but very beautiful Ajman museum. Admission was just 5 dirhams per person. That came out to less than $2 per person. I've never been to any museum which charged so little. In the US, a $20 admission is a steal for any museum in any major city.

This was the Mowaihat Archaeological site. It is situated in the city's outskirts. Discovered accidentally last 1986, the site unearthed various Umm-al-Nar ceramic vessels, tombs, various copper elements, more than 3,000 beads and some human remains.

Our guide, Ali, seemed very obliging and always asked us if we wanted to get off the car to take pictures of a certain attraction we passed or if we wanted to visit any museum. I was glad we agreed to going inside the Ajman Museum. In hindsight, we should have also agreed to visit the Sharjah Museum as it seemed very big, even bigger than the Ajman and Dubai Museums.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Ajman Museum. There were lots of school children on a field trip the same time we visited.

The museum as a whole was not big. An hour stay is more than sufficient here. The main building housed depictions of life in the emirate in the olden days. The mannequins seemed life like and the vignettes were very colorful.
