The Obelisk at the Plaza de Mayo
Located right in the middle of Plaza de Mayo this obelisk was constructed to commemorate Argentina's first year independence from Spain. It is said that every Thursday at 3:30 pm, the mothers of the disappeared continue to march and search for social justice. I had long heard of these women marching in BA and I had hoped to see them during one of their protests. I do know that a long time ago many young Argentines were killed for their views which were contrary to their government at the time.
This time, however, what I did see was a huge Russian celebration replete with dancers and singers. I never realized there was such a huge Russian population in Buenos Aires.
