Leaving Bangkok for Yangon in Myanmar

21-Jan-2017 • Bangkok Thailand

When we knew we were definitely going to Bangkok over the Christmas holidays, we checked out the possibility of going to Yangon in Myanmar formerly Burma.

Realizing that travel time was only an hour and fifteen minutes from Bangkok, we didn't think twice about going. A month and a half prior to leaving for our Christmas break, we applied for our Myanmar visa online and were approved very quickly. Shortly thereafter, we booked our plane tickets on Thai Airways at a cost of $250 per person. Not bad compared to other low cost carriers which were cheaper but had long layovers in Kuala Lumpur. We were quite pleased with Thai Airways.

Since we had a lot of time at our disposal prior to our departure from Bangkok, we toured the departure area of the huge Bangkok airport and had lunch at the Royal Thai Silk Lounge shared by United's Star Alliance.

The airport definitely stood out for its statues of guards similar to the ones we saw at the Grand Palace a few days earlier.

While there were many people departing Bangkok at that time, the departure lounges didn't seem crowded at all. In fact, our plane bound for Myanmar was not full. There was a lot of room for people to change seats.

This was our departure gate before it opened.
