Wat Pho, Bangkok

Not so far away from the Grand Palace was Wat Pho. This was the site of the famous Reclining Buddha.

I initially thought touring the grounds of the Grand Palace would take the whole afternoon leaving us with no time whatsoever to visit Wat Pho. I even thought we would have to visit the site of he Reclining Buddha some other day.

However, given that the remains of the late Thai King were in the the Grand Palace and the locals came by the thousands to pay their last respects, part of the palace grounds were off limits to the visiting public. That also meant less ground for us to visit. With less ground to explore, we thus had more time to visit Wat Pho. For the second time that afternoon, I was wrong in thinking that the Reclining Buddha was the sole attraction in Wat Pho. The attraction turned out to be bigger and had temples for exploration.

It was Marc's first time to see the Reclining Buddha while it was the second time for me. During my first visit, however, I didn't get to take any picture at all since the Buddha was totally covered by scaffolding. This time around, I was determined to take as many pictures as I could to remind me of my visit.

The impressive Reclining Buddha. Later during our stay in Bangkok, Marc and I visited Ayutthaya. There we discovered that there was another Reclining Buddha. The difference between the two was that the one in Bangkok had open eyes while the one in Ayutthaya had closed ones.
