Jim Thompson's House, Bangkok

21-Dec-2016 • Bangkok Thailand

Jim Thompson's house was the very first attraction we visited during our first full day in Bangkok. Fortunately for us, it was just a block away from our hotel in the Siam area of the city. All of the pictures shown in this post are exteriors. Photography inside the house was not allowed during the tour. Jim Thompson was a New Yorker who went to live in Thailand for good and he revitalized the Thai silk industry in the process.

Apparently, Mr. Thompson went on a vacation to one of the jungles of Malaysia with some friends but failed to return. To this day, his body has not been found despite searches made for many years.

We paid admission to enter the premises and we had to join a tour by the language of our choice. I remember us joining an English language group at 9:40 am with the visit of the premises lasting roughly an hour. We also had to take off our shoes while we walked around the house.
