Ketchikan was the second to the last port for us to visit. It looked very picturesque from the ship as we arrived. Just like with the other ports, Ketchikan was a walkable city. There was no need for any excursions here. Given the culture vultures that we are, Marc and I only needed our feet to explore the city. It wasn't that big. As for its attractions, many were within walking distance from each other.
This sign reminded me of the one I see in Reno, Nevada.
In Ketchikan! Our ship couldn't have docked more central. The city was right at our doorstep! Loved it! If there was anything that I remember the most about the city it was the preponderance of souvenir stores at the dock. There were plenty of them selling knick knacks from totem poles to Russian nesting dolls.
One local business right in downtown.
This restaurant must sell a lot of crabs based on its mascot right on its awning.
Oh, there she is, Norwegian Pearl! This is the same ship we traveled on when Marc and I went to the Panama Canal and Colombia just three months prior (April 2016).
Loved this art sculpture in a park
The marina
We didn't see whales here but there certainly were lots of benches with salmon shapes on them.
Here's another one!
At the entrance of Creek Street
These were the colorful stores that lined Creek Street. While here, we likewise took a tram to the top of a hill where a lodge was located.
This was the famous Dolly's House along Creek Street known to have been purchased by a lady of the night over a century ago for a few hundred dollars. She paid it all off in ten days! Many passengers who heard the story laughed. I'm sure many thought that the lady must have worked a lot to have paid the mortgage off successfully within such a short period of time. Good for her I say! Today it is a museum with admission. Pretty neat!
There were lots of beautiful wooden art sculptures scattered all over the city just like this one in the shape of a Native American.
This was a part of a totem pole.
Beautiful, eh?
"Hold it, where do you think you're going?" goes the bear inside a souvenir store.
"What? Who's behind me?!"
Here we go, shopping along Creek Street!
This was the canoe that was suspended from the ceiling inside the lodge on a hill.
This was another Native American art that was displayed inside.
One of Ketchikan's attractions was the Totem Heritage Center
Some of the really old and historic totem poles on display inside the Totem Heritage Center
Inside the Totem Heritage Center, Ketchikan
I loved this tree in a park. It looked so Christmassy!
I must say, Alaska was proudly American. US flags flew proudly everywhere even houses.
While window shopping, we saw a store with hundreds of stuffed animals and furs for sale. I wanted to get one. The price was just too steep. So I passed!
Care for this rug in your home, people?
After a week on board the MS Amsterdam, I tell you, I cannot eat anymore salmon for another year. Yes, you heard me right, for another year. I had salmon overload during the cruise.
This was funny to see inside a souvenir shop!
This was the beautiful monument right opposite the Visitor's Information Center in Ketchikan. That's our ship behind it.
What? Marc allows to have his picture taken? What a miracle!
This was the elegant ship we sailed on.
See the people in line? They were our fellow passengers returning to our ship.
Our fellow passengers about to enter the ship after a day's visit to the beautiful city of Ketchikan.
A last view of Ketchikan. Bye now, see you again soon!
