The Sitka Lutheran Church

7-Jul-2016 • Sitka Alaska

Going to the Sitka Lutheran Church was as easy as pie. It was right across the St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Unlike the latter, however, it didn't cost any to enter the church premises. There was a very friendly couple from Seattle who welcomed visitors and they pointed out details about the rebuilt church. The husband even took us to the second floor to see the historic organ. True to the Lutheran faith, the church was devoid of any religious statues and the entire church décor was very, very minimal. The church looked almost bare, if you ask me.

Sitka Lutheran Church

This was the original crucifix inside the old Lutheran Church which burned years ago. Its parishioners saved it albeit charred. It now hangs right above the main entance to the church.

This painting was rehabilitated in Finland and then sent back to the church in Sitka.

The podium at the altar of the Lutheran Church

This is how the altar and pews looked from the church's second floor.

While the churches I pray in have stained glass windows decorated with religious scenes, these ones didn't. Again, in accordance with the Lutheran faith.
