The Holland America Line MS Amsterdam

3-Jul-2016 • Seattle, Washington United States

The MS Amsterdam was a beautiful ship. I had seen pictures of it on the internet prior to our sailing and I was very pleased with it despite its reported age and size. What I liked the most about it was that it felt so intimate on board. Not once did it feel crowded. The whole atmosphere was very relaxed and it in fact at times felt empty given the that the common areas were devoid of passengers. It was such a huge difference from all the other ships we've sailed on where passengers were plentiful and ever so present everywhere we went.

Here's the beautiful astronomical clock at the atrium. Each face had a different feature. I had read about it prior to our trip and it certainly impressed.

This side of the clock had the names of the cities from around the world grouped according to time zone

The theater was small but the seats were so comfortable and intimate.

Here's seating in one of the restaurants on board but passengers had to pay extra to eat here.

The casino

Art was everywhere on board and this upholstered wall with what looked like plush carpeting was just one of them.

Here's one of the duty free shops. To be honest, duty free shops aren't any bargain anywhere. I see similar goods priced the same back home.

One of the many lounges on board. This one was opposite the duty free shops.

The main dining room

There was likewise a computer room where workshops about taking pictures with digital cameras were held. We attended one and we were quite surprised how informative it was.

The laundry room was such a blessing. I truly appreciated the fact that the ship had washers and dryers on board. We actually did laundry here once right before we disembarked.
