Ever since I began traveling to other countries, I likewise told myself that I should take advantage of the different sights and attractions there are in my home city.
Both Marc and I have visited the San Francisco Zoo in the mid 1990s, but since it took place ages ago, we decided to return one afternoon during the long Labor Day Weekend last September.
I know what snobs might say. It's no San Diego Zoo, reputedly one of the best zoos in the entire USA. All I can say is, "It's what we've got and it isn't bad." San Francisco residents by the way enter at a discount upon presentation of their California ID.
Glad to be back in the San Francisco Zoo. It was a day well spent I have to say.
A Lemur
The King
An Eastern Mountain Bongo
And another one
Who would have thought there were murals here too?
Some Black Necked Swans
Brown Pelicans
More Brown Pelicans
Just like many visitors to the zoo, I wondered why this Bald Eagle hasn't flown away. We later saw a sign which said that it had injured wings. It can no longer fly and zoo staff now take care of it full time by feeding it.
Pecary
More Pecaries
Here's a Pecary up close.
"It's too hot. I'm taking a nap," says the tiger.
"Me too," says the Rhinoceros.
I was surprised to see a Polar Bear in the San Francisco Zoo. With the drought and the very high temperatures we've been experiencing in California, I can only guess what this animal is feeling. I am surprised it hasn't died.
The same Polar Bear
A California native, the Grizzly Bear
The Plumed Basilisk
The Ibis
A real live comodo dragon
"How's this for a close up? Do I look good? Okay?"
Flamingos
Magellanic Penguins
