The Titanic Museum
Marc insisted that we visit the Titanic Museum as soon as we arrived in Belfast. Thus, on our first full day in this Northern Ireland city, we set out to look for the museum named after the ill fated ship which sank in the Atlantic Ocean on its maiden voyage. The newish museum looked very modern. We were stopped by the entrance fee for a few minutes right in the museum's lobby. We found the admission rather steep especially since it was the equivalent of US $50 for both for us. It was 15 British Pounds per person, you see.
In the end, we decided to go inside since we were already in Belfast and the Tripadvisor reviews were mostly positive. Well, I thought I was going to see a lot of Titanic artifacts. However, that didn't happen. In a way, I was disappointed I didn't see any realia like the real plates, kitchen ware, furniture and the like. There were replicas though. Anything related to the ship was actually minimal. This museum is all about its ties to the city of Belfast where it was built by the P & H Company.
There were tons of information, lots of vintage pictures about Belfast during the era the ship was built as well as documentaries. After having said this, I think the Titanic Museum is really more like a city history museum. It was mostly about the people behind the scenes, especially the men who worked in the docks who built ships from the highly paid men in the drawing room to the semi skilled and skilled workers who made ships like the Titanic a reality.
