Filipino Paintings

On one of my visits to the Philippines, I fell in love with the art for sale in the malls and outdoor markets. It never occurred to me that I would one day take a big liking to such work. They were oh so beautiful and very affordable. They were painted by amateur folk but they are geniuses in my book. They truly captured daily life scenes I remember growing up in Manila and they make me feel so nostalgic for the land of my birth.

Fishermen back on shore after catching fish very early in the morning.

A Manila scene back in the early 1900s when horse drawn carriages called Kalesas helped transport locals throughout the city

Life in the country is romanticized in this scene. Here a family lives in one of the provinces and owns a thatched hut for a dwelling surrounded by land they till from morning til dusk.

Two young female vendors selling local delicacies circa early 1900s based on their attire
