The Pacific Union Club
Nob Hill is one of the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco. Sometimes called Snob Hill because of the presence of its uber rich residents, it is a sight to see and a pleasant place to linger in. Some of the landmarks here are the hip Grace Cathedral, the historic Fairmont Hotel, the Intercontinental Hotel, and the last of the early 1900 mansions now called the Pacific Union Club.
This mansion is the site of one of the most exclusive and discriminating clubs in the country. For one, women are not allowed in. Second, membership is limited to the very rich.
I once saw a group of women tourists from out of state aghast upon learning about the place. Shortly after learning what it was like, they returned with some placards and picketed to no avail.
