The Euro and Dollar Parity

7-Mar-2015 • San Francisco, California United States

I was watching the German News on cable last night when they showed the euro's value to be equal to the US dollar. I thought it must have been a mistake and so I googled it to make sure. True enough, the euro has dropped in value and is now on par with the green buck.

This just means Americans will be going to Europe by the thousands. No, I take that back. They will be going there by the millions come spring break and summer vacation. That for sure. I read several articles on the net today saying that bookings have risen astronomically for the euro zone countries for the American vacation seasons.

I plan to go there myself just as my partner and I have been doing the past three years. After all these years traveling across the Atlantic and losing at least 25% of our money's value to the poor exchange rate, I say it's about time.

I can still remember when the US economy was hit hard last 2008 and the dollar was at its weakest. We vacationed for several years to Asia then where the dollar did better while Europeans came to the US in droves. I can still remember. I heard more people speaking French and German in our streets than English at that time due to the European invasion.

I can just imagine how the shopping, the hotels, the museum admissions, everything will be cheap for us in Europe this time around. I can't wait.

These were some leftover euros from our last trip to Eastern Europe.
