Uppsala, Sweden

2-May-2014 • Stockholm Sweden

Have you ever traveled to a country and not remember much about your visit because so much time had passed since? I have. Thanks to all the pictures I took then, I have wonderful memories but if you were to ask me details about the visit, I won't be able to give you much. Such is the case with my trip to Uppsala in Sweden. I know we went there for a day trip out of the Swedish capital but that's as much I can tell you 23 years after we made the trek. I do know that Uppsala is a university town very much like Salamanca in Spain. However, we didn't see any student at all when we went since it was summer time, August 2003 to be exact, and everyone was on break. School was out. Anyway, we did see some important sights in the city as recommended by travel guru Rick Steves whose travel book and guide we purchased for this trip. I do look forward to returning here soon and very soon. It would be nice to see the sights we saw so fleetingly the first time and enjoy what the city has to offer. After all, we don't find ourselves in Sweden often.

At 118.7 metres tall, Uppsala Cathedral is the largest church in the Nordic region.

Main façade of Uppsala Cathedral. I don't think the cathedral was open during our visit. We didn't get to see what the inside was like.

A closer view of the main entry way to the cathedral with its chiseled and ornate details made of stone

Unlike the churches I was used to seeing in Spain before we came here, Swedish churches had very simple architecture with none of the ornamentation.
