The Piazza della Republica
Marc and I walked all over Rome during our entire 6 day stay. It gave us a very good idea of the lay of the land. Very close to the Termini area was the Piazza della Republica.
It really struck me as odd that many travelers to Rome talked very badly about the area. Many have described it as crime ridden and utterly dangerous. We asked many locals and they told us the area was safe. I didn't find it to be dangerous either. I will not refute travelers' comments about the presence of pickpockets in the area. I do believe that Rome is full of pickpockets and scam merchants. One simply needs to be as vigilant in the Eternal City just like in any big city.
