The Stave Church at the Norwegian Open Air Museum

10-Aug-2013 • Oslo Norway

Marc had mentioned to me that there was a Stave Church inside the open air museum. HAving seen it in pictures and also on travels shows in the States, I just had to see it for myself. I know for a fact that they could only be found outside of Oslo and since we weren't going anywhere outside the Norwegian capital on this trip, we were excited about seeing it. The Stave Church here after all is not a replica or a model but a real one but transported to the museum to become part of its exhibits.

Although the pictures here show no people, there were actually tour groups and families visiting it both inside and out. Most of the time, we waited to take just the right shot without anyone in the background.

It was rather difficult to enjoy the church's interior given the group tours here. There was one from Italy whose guide explained each and every aspect of the church interior. While she may have been thorough, she lost the interest of many of the people in her group. They just began wandering away and walking around the tiny church halls by themselves. Some even just went outside and sat on a bench.

Fortunately, many of the tour groups eventually left and we could see the church interior better and up close.
