The Rinno Hotel in Vilnius
True to many reviews written on Tripadvisor, the Rinno Hotel was good value for the money. If I were to return to Vilnius today, I wouldn't hesitate returning to this hotel one bit. It was truly superb.
It is not directly in front of the bus nor the train station. It took us approximately 15 minutes to get to the hotel and that was because we had to constantly refer to the map and directions we were given by the lady at the tourist office located inside the train station. It was pouring down rain too. Otherwise, it would have been a much more pleasant walk. It took us considerably less on the way back from the hotel to the train station where we had to catch the local train to get to the Vilnius International Airport.
One word of warning about this hotel though. There are no elevators here. It is a very well maintained and very clean hotel building, but not as modern. We were assigned a room on the second floor and Marc had a difficult time carrying the luggage. It was pretty heavy after all, what with the dirty clothes and the souvenir postcards, books, and guides we had accumulated over the two weeks we had been traveling so far.
One angry reviewer on tripadvisor had mentioned that the hotel was in a sketchy area or town. Vilnius is an old city and the houses were definitely not made of modern steel and glass condo buildings we are used to seeing in the US. But, the area wasn't dangerous at all. It felt safe, even safer than sad to say, my adopted hometown of San Francisco, and many other US cities.
Unlike our room at the Hanza Hotel in Riga, our room here was airconditioned. Truth of the matter is, it didn't matter much since it was quite cool in Vilnius all throughout our stay. It rained every single day, sometimes the downpour was even very intense. Anyway, one never knows when there is going to be good weather and when it is going to be very hot. Having an airconditioned room is definitely a high priority when traveling in the summer months in Europe. Heaven forbid, there is a heatwave when we travel just like when Marc joined me in Salamanca in the summer of 2003 all of Spain was melting because of a horrible heatwave.
As soon as we entered, Marc's first words were, "WOW!" He was quite impressed with the size of the room. For some reason, the pictures that I took of some parts of the room including that of my bed came out hazy. Anyway, we were given two separate twin sized beds. The sheets were clean and crisp just like I prefer them to always be.
