48 Hours in Copenhagen

25-Jul-2013 • Copenhagen Denmark

Marc and I are so happy to be back in Copenhagen. It's been 10 years since we were last here. We first visited in the summer of 2003, shortly after I finished the first phase of my Master's studies in Spanish language and culture at the University of Salamanca. We both had to wake up at 5 am this morning in Oslo to catch our 9:15 am flight to Copenhagen. We stay for two days in Denmark then fly back to San Francisco via Toronto, Canada.

We took the 6:34 am train for the airport from the Central Train Station in downtown Oslo and arrived there around 6:57 am. we were quite hungry and so we passed by the SAS Lounge in the airport. After all, we didn't have the chance to eat breakfast in the hotel.

Despite our early arrival in the airport, we were not the first ones there. In fact, the place was full of passengers already. We checked in as fast as we could, then went through customs. The security personnel questioned Marc about the round metal things the X Ray machine showed. They were the Kokeshi and Nesting Doll like figurines I bought from a design center in downtown Oslo.

At Nyhan, 10 years after first visit to Copenhagen in 2003

Nyhavn has got to be Copenhagen's most colorful section fo the city. There can be no doubt about it. This is one place every tourist in Copenhagen needs to see and visit. There are restaurants here all geared for tourists hence the very steep prices. Travel guru, Rick Stteves, once bought a can of beer and just drank it on the sidewalk facing the restaurants to save money.

Marc with the Little Mermaid!

This is the now picture for both Marc and myself. We stood at the same exact spot ten years ago. As usual, there were tourists galore having their pictures taken next to this very important Danish lady. Luckily for us, there was this very nice art student from Los Angeles who gladly took our picture.

Another head on shot of the Little Mermaid

Crowds gathered at the statue of the Little Mermaid. Compared to our first visit, there were way fewer people gathered this time around to have their pictures taken. It must have been the time of day. We did reach the area late and dusk was about to set in.

The Citadelle

This was the Resistance Museum. I have of a picture of it in one of my photo albums. I later found out it burned recently hence the state it is in now.
