The Drydock, The Courtyard, and the Suomenlinna Museum

Like I stated in previous entries, Suomenlinna was a big place and we knew touring it would take a long time. It actually took us at least five hours going around the island. Next on our list of atractions to visit was the drydock.

The drydock

Although the attractions seemed far from each other in the beginning, the drydock was not really far from the Ehrensvard Museum. We just crossed the courtyard and there it was. The drydock was huge and deep. It is said that the drydock is still in use to this day where old wooden ships are restored.

This was the courtyard where the tomb of Augustin Ehrensvard could be found right in the very center.

It was quite difficult to get a picture of this attraction by itself in the island since tourists and all other visitors tended to gather around the tomb all day long. From here we decided to visit the Suomenlinna Museum and learn more about the island's history.

I really need to read up about the place. One thing I end up doing every time I travel is studying about the place I visit after my actual vacation. Such is the case with Suomenlinna Island.
