The IBIS Hotel Frankfurt, July 2012
For our European trip last summer, Marc and I lucked out by remembering to check out the IBIS Hotel website months before we left for our vacation. As it turned out, they offered very good hotel rates in all the places we were visiting. Who could have imagined a hotel chain that had a hotel in so many countries especially Eastern Europe? We felt we saved money by directly booking through their site rather than booking hotels through other travel search engines. Anyway, we paid a high of $100+ a night for our stay in Vienna to low of $50 a night for our room in Budapest. Truth to tell, we never paid more than $70 for the other nights we stayed in their hotels in all the other countries we traveled to. In the US, one would be hard pressed looking for a hotel room for less than a $100 a night.
Anyway, upon arrival in Frankfurt and after going through the formalities with immigration and customs, we took the train to the city center right at the airport terminal. For our very first night away from home, The IBIS Frankfurt was our stop. We arrived way before the usual 2 pm check in but the lady at the front desk gave us a room straight away enabling us to begin our touring early.
"Why is the hotel empty?" you might ask. That's because I took these pictures very early one morning way before any activity started and right before we began our usual blitzkrieging, given the culture vultures that Marc and I are.
Scoff if you must, but the room served us very well throughout our stay in Germany's Financial City. The IBIS is a no frills business hotel but very popular among Europeans on a budget. Hey, it worked well for us too. We are normally out touring the whole day and all we need is a room with clean beds in a safe location. We hardly stay in the room at all. We just sleep in it and nothing more.
One of our requirements for our choice of hotel in Europe is airconditioning. That is a must for us. One just doesn't know when there will be a heatwave and that is very possible all throughout the continent. We experienced it while in Spain in 2003.
