Touring Prague, Part 2
After Wenceslas Square, the next big beautiful place we saw was the Old Town Square or the Centrum Stareho Mesta. Gee, was it pretty and impressive. I was awestruck.
Restaurants all catering to tourists were located here. Mind you, be very, very careful when eating out here both from the cafes and even some of the kiosks. They will charge you an arm and a leg for the food you eat. Hey, you are a tourist. You are a walking target and some locals do take advantage. We had a very unpleasant experience here on our second day. Marc wanted to eat more local food and when I saw a kiosks advertising Czeck ham, I suggested we try it out.
I saw many tourists eating their food and I thought it must be good. Boy was I in for a horrific surprise. I did order the Czeck ham, Marc ordered potatoes with cabbage, and two cans of Cole light (Diet Coke in the US). The young men at the cashier charged us 43 euros. I was totally shocked when they told us how much we had to pay. I realized it was a scam.
Beware of this kiosk at the Old Town Square. Not all food vendors or restaurants are crooked but this particular one is. I was so mad. The food we bought wasn't even properly cooked. I threw half of the slice of ham I bought. That's how bad it was.
I have decided to post a picture of their kiosk so people visiting Prague would be warned. This experience certainly dampened our experience of an otherwise beautiful city a great deal.
This picture is not hazy. If it does look like it, it is because of the awful Czeck ham that was supposedly being roasted next to this kiosk. Be very wary of this place. Better stay away or you'll be sorry. Where is this located? Right in the middle of the Old Town Square also known as the Stareho Mesta.
Souvenir shops were all over the city. I didn't really buy any thing significant given we already had heavy suitcases. Glass crystal, blue and white porcelain, Czeck dolls, and marionettes were sold abundantly besides T-shirts and bags that had the word Prague on them.
