San Francisco International Airport's Hip Terminal 2 Opens

15-Apr-2011 • San Francisco, California United States

I felt very fortunate to have attended the newly remodeled SFO International Airport's Terminal 2 inauguration very recently.  It was a good thing we were able to secure tickets on time since the tickets went very fast the time they became available.  Although it is an airport, it has the combined feel and look of a swank, hip hotel and mall. I think San Francisco's airport is one of the most beautiful airports in the US hands down.  Take note that this terminal is basically just for two airlines' exclusive use at SFO International:  Virgin America and American Airlines.

Janet Echelman's three fiber sculptures hanging from interior skylights are simply impressive. You see them as soon as you go past security

.

This lipstic red leather egg seat by Arne Jacobsen can be found all throughout the terminal.

One of the waiting areas. Very slick.

A water fountain at the hydration station

This was set up to encourage passengers refill their bottles instead of buying bottled water each time they got thirsty. It's aim is to significantly reduce the waste created by single-use bottles.

Art galore in T2

Here are some of the places where passengers in transit can purchase food and other treats

Aren't these shelves stacked with food and drinks colorful? They look just like artwork.

Natalie's candy store for people with a sweet tooth.

Peet's Coffee and Tea anyone?

Here's an upscale eatery serving local California fare in T2

If you happen to be in SFO's T2 and looking for a restaurant with upscale atmosphere, this is the place to eat in.

Japanese food, anyone?
