IBIS Melbourne

15-Jul-2011 • Melbourne Australia

Melbourne, pronounced "Mel-Bun" by the locals, is a very pretty city full of art.  I mean art was everywhere.  Buildings, old and new, were nicely decorated and heck, even alleyways looked artistic too.  Our hotel in Melbourne was the IBIS.  Though just a three star hotel, the price for us seemed more like five star.  It wasn't cheap.  Anyway, Australia is not a cheap place to visit.  Be forewarned, it is uber expensive here.

As always, our first stop was our city center hotel, The IBIS Melbourne.  Our Frommers guide said it was going to be centrally located and it was.  In fact, it was just a block away from the main street, Swanston Street.  We were quite happy with our choice of hotel.  It was just a three star hotel but our room was very spacious, immaculate, and had an equally big bathroom.

The entryway to our hotel room

The closet and mini fridge.  We didn't want to eat out in restaurants for every single meal and so we purchased cereal, milk, and some bread for our breakfasts from the nearby COLES Supermarket and stocked them all in this tiny fridge.

Space, space, and more space next to our bed

The desk and flat screen TV

We only watched the news every time the TV was on.  It reached a point though when we got so tired of the same news over and over again while we were in Australia at the time.  It was all about Rupert Murdoch and how much trouble he got himself into because of all the phone hacking his staff and newspaper company in London did.

The shower stall

The sink. There was a lot of space under the counter for our toiletries.

The you know what.  The bathroom had vinyl flooring.  I actually liked it.  It gave the bathroom a really clean feel.  The hotel cleaning staff kept it well maintained during our stay there.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the IBIS Melbourne.  We would gladly come back.

We left Sydney very early in the morning so that we would have the rest of the day for sightseeing.  After checking in at the hotel, we went to the Queen Victoria Market for lunch at the deli of their food section.  Boy was it crowded over there at lunch.  Not only were tourists there but the locals as well.  We had some delicious sausages.  I can't recall exactly how they were called but they were huge.  I thought I was going to be able to eat only half of the sandwich but I finished it all.  Y-u-m-m-y.

After lunch, we walked a couple blocks down the street and caught the free tram that took tourists around town.  We got really tired and sleepy after the ride and so we headed back to the hotel for a quick nap.
