Myeondong Cathedral, Dandemun Design Center, and Gangnam

On our last full day in Seoul prior to our return to the US, we woke up early and bought breakfast. After seeing the Myeongdong Cathedral a number of times from a distance every time we walked to the subway, we decided to see it up close. It did take a while to find given the way the streets leading to it were laid out but we eventually found our way. Here I prayed long and hard and asked for guidance whether to stay another year in teaching or leave in June.

We then proceeded to the nearest subway station and took the train to the Dandemun Design Center. It wasn't built yet when we were in Korea the last time. The building was huge. However, it looked very empty inside. There was a gift shop where I bought a deck of cards about Korean architecture for 17,000 won. Next, we crossed the street over to the Hyundai Outlet store. After browsing a bit, we ended up in a foodcourt inside the mall next to Hyundai. We ordered chicken katsu and beef bulgogi for lunch. The servings were huge. I couldn't finish my plate. Before the day ended, we went back to Gangnam to see the hand statue as well as the Bongeunsa Temple. We even looked for the IBIS Hotel we stayed in during our second trip there. I was a bit worried that the trains going back to Myeondong would be packed and bursting at the seams once again. But, since it was a Saturday, the trains were less full this time. What a relief it was for me! We went back tour hotel and packed our bags for our return journey home. Soon it was back to reality and work!

I have a picture right in the same spot from our second visit to Seoul back in 2005. How time flies!

After getting lost and having a hard time locating the IBIS Hotel in Gangnam, we found it on our second try. I thought it was just a couple of blocks away from COEX Mall but I was mistaken. It was several blocks away. It was nice to reminisce. The hotel was very new when I stayed here back in the early 2000s.

The Hand statue in Gangnam. It was surrounded by tourists and getting a solo picture with just me and the attraction was impossible.

Would yo believe we found a nice IBIS Hotel in Myeongdong just a few steps away from the Shinsegae Department Store? We did. This might be where we would stay the next time we vacation in Seoul.
