More of Kyoto

The Gion District of Kyoto

On our nth visit to Kyoto, we got to visit its Gion District made more famous by the movie, Memoirs of a Geisha.  I do not think I would have cared much at all about this place had it really not been for the movie.  I got to appreciate this part of old Kyoto and realized the reason behind the presence of maikos in many of its streets.  It is indeed old Japan as evidenced by its well preserved houses, temples, theaters, and covered shopping lanes.

Quaint houses in the Gion District of Kyoto.  Houses of this type lined the streets on both sides and for blocks on end.
