More of Auckland on Our First Day of Vacation

3-Jul-2011 • Auckland New Zealand

Walking around and leisurely experiencing life in another country are some of my favorite things to do when traveling.  Although I live in one of the most picturesque cities in the world, seeing other places is one of my life's pleasures.

The picture above was taken in Queen's Street, close to the Auckland Town Hall.  There was a Border's Bookstore here too and it was the sandstone colored building with the bluish gray top on the right past the white colored awning.

The Town Hall is now a theater and performance venue.

Although not a tourist attraction, I found this huge, huge colorful banner on the side of one building.  I have never seen anything like it.  It's clearly advertising but it looked like a huge mural on a wall to me.  Very eye catching.

This pagoda like building is a backpacker's hostel.  There are quite a number of inexpensive hostels in Auckland's CBD but this one clearly stood out due to its architecture.  We actually passed by this building on our way to the SEBEL from the international airport.

The Ferry Building is a beautiful sandstone building on the waterfront.  This is where one takes any of the Fuller ferries to travel to the neighboring islands like Waiheke, Rangitoto, Devonport and the like.

Here's one of the Fullers Ferries.

Britomart, the train station.  Though it may look old and colonial on the outside, this building is slick and modern on the inside.  It is one building remodeled in the last five years in downtown Auckland.
