The Serbian Orthodox Church Museum

A closer view of the entrance to The Serbian Orthodox Church Museum right across the Serbian Orthodox Church. Taken late in the afternoon. We wanted to go in and check the museum out. Unfortunately, it was already closed for the day when we arrived.

Opposite the National Assembly was this City Assembly building

A partial view of the public market close to the bus terminal. It was closed for the day when we got there.

This was the last stop of Bus 72, the bus we took from the airport. From here we walked to our hotel , the Mercure. That afternoon we arrived, the walk to our accommodation seemed like an eternity. We were after all carrying heavy backpacks and huge suitcases. I was truly thankful my partner had the google map. It was very useful in finding our way everywhere we went. One afternoon, we decided to retrace our steps from the moment we arrived to the time we reached the Mercure, backwards. The walk was not long at all. It only seemed like so since Belgrade was still new for us. And for all visitors to Belgrade who plan to take the bus from the airport to the city center, there indeed are two ways to get to the city center. Take the A1 bus, the bus which most tourists take. It costs a bit more than the local bus, Bus 72, but the travel time is less. Good luck with the space for your suitcases though. The A1 buses were saw both in the airport and in downtown Belgrade were mini vans. They had very limited space for travelers' belongings. On the other hand, Bus 72 is the bus locals take. It was the bus we ended up taking since the A1 bus couldn't accommodate our suitcases. Travel time though took over an hour. There were times when I got worried thinking that we got on the wrong bus while we were already on board. But luckily, we made it. Be forewarned, this bus line does not take cash. We tried to pay by credit card but the machine that took fares on board didn't accept our cards. We ended up traveling without paying.

The Church of the Ascension

Here's a view of the main facade of the Church of the Ascension. We got to visit it on our last day in Belgrade.

The main altar inside the Church of the Ascension

A religious icon. I found many religious icons in Serbia made this way. Not totally painted.
