Here's the main entrance to the Franconian State Museum for Art and Cultural History
Admission was very, very affordable. Upon entry, we initially thought we entered a children's interactive museum. We thought so because there were many school children on a field trip that morning and there was no one else but us.
After placing our backpacks in a locker, we set out to explore. We really didn't see many rooms by the entrance. I remember seeing some knight armors in the first room we entered and not much more. We were getting ready to leave until one lady employee led us to a door that opened to more galleries and exhibits. What we thought was a dud turned out to be jaw dropping!
Here is what we saw. Mind you, I did not include any labels nor descriptions to the pictures I uploaded here. Anyway, enjoy!
A mural right by the museum entrance
It was here where a lady employee showed us the door that opened up to more rooms and galleries. We initially thought the museum to be small and uninteresting but we were wrong.
Human remains
Pottery from the olden times
Religious icons
What's a European museum without religious paintings? They seem to populate each and every museum I have been to in Europe in the past three decades.
Some garden statues on exhibit
There were lots of paintings inside. Many of them were of noblemen and aristocrats.
This was a view of some homes on a hill behind the museum which was located inside the Marienberg Fortress. I took this picture from one of the galleries.
I can't really explain it but this painting was my favorite among all the paintings I saw inside the museum. This was the portrait of a man surnamed Roth. I believe the painting was done around 1848.
How I'd love to have a portrait of myself painted just like this gentleman.
